Nervous System Rest - Without Effort

Acoustic dry float therapy using sound resonance and warm water.

Fully clothed. No preparation.

Just stillness, sound, and the quiet return to yourself.

Dry float therapy is one of the most gentle, accessible, and profoundly restful therapies we offer. It asks nothing of you - simply lie fully clothed, and allow your body to find its way back to calm.

What is Dry Float Therapy?

Where sound meets the body's own wisdom

Dry float therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that gives you all the deep rest of traditional float therapy - without water, without a pod, and without any preparation at all. You stay fully clothed throughout.

At the Centre for Holistic Living, we offer dry float therapy using the Entle Bed - the world's first acoustic dry floating system, developed by Australian naturopath Thomas Staudacher. What makes this different from other dry float beds is the addition of precisely encoded acoustic sound resonance: as you rest on the warm water membrane, sound waves move through the water and into your tissues, reaching muscles, bones, and your nervous system with soft, rhythmic vibration.

Within minutes, the mind tends to quiet, the breath slows, and something in the nervous system simply... exhales. Many people describe it as floating between wakefulness and rest - a threshold state that most of us rarely find in ordinary life. It is a profoundly simple invitation to rest.

And your body already knows how.

How it works

How dry float therapy works on the body

Acoustic resonance

Structured vibrational patterns are delivered through a warm water membrane beneath you. Sound waves move through tissue, reaching muscles, organs, and your skeletal system - gently and without force.

Nervous system support

As vibration travels through the body's natural pathways, your parasympathetic nervous system - the "rest and digest" state - begins to re-engage. Stress hormones lower. The body remembers how to feel safe.

Weightless restoration

Floating on the water membrane removes the constant pull of gravity from joints, muscles, and the spine. Physical tension releases. The mind, no longer bracing, finds space to settle.
Benefits

What dry float therapy supports

Every body is different, and every session is its own experience. That said, many clients report a consistent range of shifts - often felt from the very first session.

  • Nervous system regulation: A noticeable shift from the fight-or-flight state toward calm, grounded presence.
  • Stress and anxiety relief: Overactive thoughts quieten as the body moves out of a state of overwhelm.
  • Improved sleep: Many clients notice deeper, more restorative sleep in the nights following a session.
  • Muscle tension release: The combination of weightlessness and vibration gently eases held tension in the body.
  • Emotional clarity: A sense of greater ease, perspective, and emotional groundedness after sessions.
  • Deeper body awareness: Supports reconnection with bodily sensation - particularly valuable alongside somatic therapy.
  • Recovery and restoration: Supports the body's natural recovery processes - from physical fatigue, burnout, or chronic stress.
  • Energetic balance: Many clients describe a sense of inner harmony, coherence, and restored vitality.

The session unfolds

Sessions run for 60 minutes. As the acoustic sound programmes begin, many people notice the mind softening within the first few minutes. Some drift into a light meditative state; others remain gently aware throughout. Both are completely natural.

Integration and reflection

After the session, we allow time to ground and reorient before you leave. This is an important part of the process - giving the body time to integrate what it has experienced. Many clients report feeling noticeably calmer, clearer, and more embodied in the hours and days that follow.

Is this for you?

Dry float therapy may be particularly supportive if you are...

Dry float therapy is gentle, non-invasive, and suitable for most people. It is especially well-suited to those carrying a high nervous system load - which, in today's world, is most of us.

  • Living with chronic stress or anxiety
  • Struggling with sleep difficulties
  • Recovering from burnout or exhaustion
  • Holding physical tension or chronic pain
  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected
  • Supporting trauma healing alongside therapy
  • Wanting to deepen your somatic awareness
  • Looking for a deeply restorative, gentle therapy
  • Sensitive to more intense bodywork or stimulation
  • Seeking a meditative state without effortful practice

Dry float therapy is fully clothed and requires no preparation - making it accessible even when energy is low.

A deeper offering

Dry float therapy as part of your healing journey

Dry float therapy extends beyond a standalone treatment, as a powerful complement to the deeper therapeutic work we offer. When the nervous system has found a moment of true rest, the insights and healing that emerge in counselling or somatic psychotherapy can settle more fully into the body.

Pairs beautifully with:

  • Somatic Psychotherapy - Dry float therapy cultivates the embodied, felt-sense awareness that somatic work builds on. It can deepen the capacity to track inner sensation and access self-connection.
  • Counselling - When the nervous system is regulated and the body is at ease, there is more internal space for reflection, insight, and integration. A dry float session can be a beautiful preparation for, or complement to, counselling work.
  • Energy Healing - Both modalities work with the body's subtle energetic systems, supporting coherence, balance, and a sense of inner harmony.
